RJM Painting. Interior & Exterior house painting contractor with over 25 years experience in Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar.

Interior house painting is important for the look and style of a home. Interior house painters knows paint colors differ from light to dark depending on the wall you put them on. For some walls the color that was chosen is perfect and for others it isn’t. This is due to shadowing from where the sun is or isn’t. Interior lighting can affect the way a color looks also.

Interior House Painters Know the Difference.

As interior house painters, before we start any interior house painting project, draw downs should be made to allow the customer to see it in different lighting. We put them on an 8 ½” x 11” card so the homeowner can bring them from room to room to see the color compatibility with the room. Picking the perfect color is difficult but with the right contractor it’s our responsibility to help and guide the homeowner in the right direction.

Why Is Prep Work Such an Important Part of the Interior Painting Process?

90% of any interior house painting job is prep work. Masking of the home surfaces the right way is critical and using the right materials. Materials that are high end materials such as safe removing blue tape and good masking tape to tape to that to the rosin paper, green paper and quality plastic is important.

After masking of home the walls should be filled, patched and textured in a matching texture. It’s important to make sure to float out of the patch if it is large to make sure the texture blends with the existing. Small holes, such as nail holes can be patched easily. Bathrooms and kitchens should be inspected and washed with TSP if necessary to remove all contaminates before priming and finishing. Contaminates consist of shampoo, food debris and other things that we put on the walls.

An Interior House Painters Technique for a High Quality Finish

Painting is the easy part for professional house painters who know their trade. All enamel surfaces such as baseboard, doors, casing, jambs and crown should be filled, sanded, primed and finished with a high quality finish. The primer and finish is the most important. It needs to be durable, easy to clean and high quality.

There are many paint companies with different painting products but there only a few that I trust, such as Sherwin Williams and Dunn Edwards, and have had great success for both interior and exterior house painting projects. There are interior house painting projects we have done that have lasted over 10 years and we can easily touch up over time. After all the enamel is done it should be masked off to prepare for the wall painting. After the masking is done the walls are next and all roller covers used should be quality covers and frames. The walls at the top near the ceiling, baseboard and casing should be done first and then the walls themselves. It goes amazingly fast if you know what you’re doing. Clean up the masking and throw it in the trash. Paint cans can be easily recycled at any reputable paint company for free.

kitchen Cabinet Painting

Kitchen Cabinet Painting is basically the same as interior painting but a little more complicated.

All doors and drawer fronts must be marked for the box they came from. What I mean by that is this #1-#45 and you know where to put it when the job is complete. Also, the hardware that keeps them on the face frame should be marked top or bottom for easy installation. The interior of the cabinet must be masked off to avoid overspray to protect the interior and belongings. Cabinetry should be cleaned with a mild solution to remove hand gum, cleaning materials and food contaminants. After the cabinets are dry they need to be filled, sanded, primed and finished in a high quality finish. When the finishing is done the doors should be hung in the order of the numbering. I recommend no chemicals be used to clean the cabinets after completion. Cleaning of the cabinetry should be dishwashing liquid and water with a clean sponge.
